We spent a few days in Reykjavik. Mark and Seanne, had to leave two days earlier than us so they never got to walk around the Iceland’s capital.
After dropping off Mark and Seanne at the airport we returned our rental at Cheapjeep, and started to explore the capital. Reykjavik, which means “smoky bay” is a small city, with colorful houses. Not only was it clean, but the air just smelled so good. I know it sounds strange, but we noticed the difference in the air immediately once we return to NY.
First stop was to get more hotdogs at Bæjarins beztu pylsur. The hotdog is best ordered with everything. Lets just say the hot dog is addicting. My travel companions ordered two each time. And we stopped by four times.
We saw some interesting graffiti.
Listened to a live band compromised of talented teenagers. Surprisingly, the band has been together for only a month. I can’t remember the exact name, but it sounded like “white flag.”
We rested in front of Hallgrímskirkja, which was a Lutheran church. It had a unique design, which is said to resemble the basalt lava flow of Iceland. There was wifi access, and my sister was happy to get on facebook while kenneth and I explored the church.
To my surprise my brother actually liked the church, and took and interest in reading the details hanging on the walls. It was moments like that, that encourage me to take them to more trips and expose them to the world.
We did some grocery shopping at the Bonus store, before eating at Indian Mango. As a big fan of Indian food, I was a little disappointed with the food. However, it was my siblings first time eating at an Indian restaurant, and once again to my surprise they enjoyed it.
We called it a day, and walked back to our hostel.
We woke up early for a disappointing horseback riding Elfins Tour with Eldhestar. We we’re picked up from our hostel and drove to Hveragerdi. Hveragerdi was our first stop on our first day in Iceland, because of the natural hot springs in the area. We were expecting an enchanting trail filled with stories of Iceland’s “hidden people.” Instead we were literally herded just across the road from the ranch, in which our guide barely talked. The ride lasted probably 30 minutes, and we were back to the ranch. At least the light lunch offered was delicious, and lessened our disappointment.
We went back to Reykjavik, and packed our belongings. We then checked in to the hostel before we toured the city looking for souvenirs.
